Delay Calculator

Propagation time from the main PA to a delay line, front fill or near fill. The speed of sound is calculated from the air temperature.

The offset (usually 5–15 ms) lets the main PA arrive first, so localisation stays on the stage (Haas effect).

How it works

The speed of sound rises by about 0.6 m/s per degree. The calculator uses c = 331.3 + 0.606 × T and divides the distance between main system and delay speaker by c. Measure from the main system to the delay line at audience ear height, then fine-tune on the controller or console using a measurement.

About the toolbox

All calculations run locally in your browser. Nothing you enter is transmitted; run sheets and soundboard labels are stored on your device only.

The calculators provide guide values for planning and setup. Manufacturer data, on-site measurements and safety regulations always take precedence.
