Lighting Plot Designer

Lay out stage, trusses, rigging points and fixtures in plan view, number and address them, optionally over a venue floor plan. The result is a lighting plot, a patch list, the load on each rigging point and, at the push of a button, the phase balancing.

Rigging points & loads

PointTrussPositionTypeWLLLoadUtilisation

Important: The load distribution is a guide calculation as a continuous beam on rigid supports, using the weights entered. It does not replace a structural check. Allowable truss loads and bending moments are in the manufacturer's tables, and dynamic and safety factors are set by the responsible rigger. Installation and sign-off by competent personnel only.

    How it works

Use “Truss” to draw trusses; lengths snap in 25 cm steps. Pick a fixture type and click on the stage: near a truss it attaches automatically. A selected truss can be filled evenly using “Insert row”. Auto-addressing assigns DMX addresses in fixture-number order and never splits a fixture across a universe boundary. Use “Rigging point” to place chain hoists, fixed points or supports on the trusses. For each truss the load from self-weight, cables and fixtures is distributed to the points as a continuous beam and compared with the WLL. A floor plan can be placed underneath as an image, its transparency adjusted and scaled using two points of a known distance. “Workspace” (key F) opens the plot in full screen, where the sidebar can be hidden. Ctrl/⌘ + scroll zooms; hold Space or the middle mouse button to pan. The 3D view shows the stage, trusses at trim height, fixtures with beams and chain hoists in red. “Import scan” loads a LiDAR or 3D scan of the venue (GLB, OBJ or PLY, e.g. from a scanning app on your phone), lets you align it and turns it into a to-scale floor plan section in the 2D plot. “+ Library” adds real fixtures from the Open Fixture Library with channels, power, weight and beam angle as fixture types. Keys: V select, T truss, P rigging point, R rotate, Delete remove, Ctrl+D duplicate, arrows move.
